How to Scrape Away the Layers from Historic Woodwork
The satisfying before-and-after of the Speedheater Cobra!
As seen on episode 3 of our HGTV show
Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House?

There are few things more satisfying that stripping away the layers upon layers of paint and letting a historic wooden door breathe again! That’s exactly what we are able to do with homeowners Cristiana and Nick in episode 3 of our HGTV show, Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House? For decades, the hulking double doors of their church-turned-home have been choked in thick layers of paint. The result: so much of the thoughtful carved details are entirely lost and unappreciated.
Ethan provided a quick how-to on the basics of working with the Speedheater Cobra by Eco-Strip and then the duo were off to the races. How far to hold the heat gun from the paint surface, and for how long? Watch the episode or check Eco-Strips’s FAQ for all the helpful guidance you’ll need.
I could listen to the sizzle and watch the paint bubble and scrape away ALL DAY!!
